Guidelines in Singing and Playing Guitar

I remember when I was initially knowing to sing and play guitar wondering how on earth people could learn singing and playing guitar same time. Heck, it was difficult learning guitar, let alone learning to sing and remember a lot of words and a melody as well!

It was not until approximately five years in previous times that I ever really commenced learning to sing and play guitar earnestly and I was a little pushed into it too. I build a guitar/keyboard duo firstly as a little bit of fun and as the keyboard player won't sing then I finished up to sing and play guitar same time, and I think I now love it!

Devoid of blowing my own bark I can virtually now sing and play guitar so here are 4 basic things that I found have guided me along the way:

1) Start with quite simple, strum-along songs. A real easy method would be something like "Summer Of 69 by Bryan Adams" or "Father & Son by Cat Stevens", just give it a go!

2) Learn to play the chords first.

3) Learn the lyrics thoroughly. This for me is the secret. If you are having to read or trying to remember lyrics you will really struggle. I'm not comfortable until I have the lyrics nailed down.

4) Don't get worried too much regarding being word or melody perfect. I occasionally find that rephrasing the speed of the lyrics fits better with the guitar rhythm so make the song your own!

The best part is that you will also find that learning curve is very quick. After you can perform quite a few songs then many more will comply with readily.
